VON'S VISION FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

Look What You Helped Us Accomplish in 2020

2020… What a year to remember and what a year to forget. It was a year of ups and downs for everyone, and Von’s Vision was no exception. However – despite postponements, cancellations and plenty of restrictions – Von and the rest of the foundation were still able to accomplish a lot in the community between a mix of old programs and new initiatives.

We kicked things off in February when Von hosted his first-ever Super Bowl Vision Day. With the big game being held in Miami this year, we invited local families and students at the University of Miami for our biggest program of the year (pre-COVID). More than 90 program participants received no-cost vision screenings and prescription glasses, and some even got to meet Von…

We had more planned for the Spring, but the pandemic hit in full swing. Even Von was laid up for a spell with the Coronavirus. Inspired by his own experience with COVID-19, Von launched his ‘Von Sacks COVID’ campaign to provide hunger relief to students in Texas and Colorado who were going hungry as a result of schools closing their doors. The campaign was successful in generating over 312,000 meals for kids in need and included a $58,000 donation by Von himself.

Despite many facilities in the community being closed, Von’s Vision continued to beef up its Von’s Vision Center program by establishing a new partnership with Schomp Automotive + Subaru over the summer. This partnership with see the launch of a new Von’s Vision Center in Denver in 2021, once Boys & Girls Clubs are back in full swing.

Von’s Lockers – the newest program of the foundation – were also launched in 2020. Texas A&M’s Von’s Vision Exam Days for the fall semester saw the first usage of Von’s Locker, as 45 financial-aid eligible students received brand-new glasses. A Von’s Locker Day was also held in Pueblo this fall in partnership with Academy Kids Vision. Von’s Lockers will continue to expand in 2021 and touch the lives of hundreds of students.

While the annual Bowling Bash event was canceled in June as a result of the pandemic, Von’s Vision was still successful in holding fundraising events in 2020. September saw the first-ever A Night To Take Flight celebrity gala. Held at the picturesque Jet Linx private jet hanger, attendees received the opportunity to mingle with special guests Mark Schlereth, Karl Mecklenburg and Ryan Harris. Over $300,000 was raised at this inaugural event.

The fully-virtual Gig ‘Em Gala followed in November. Originally slated for April in College Station, Von hosted a livestream event which helped further launch his foundation in his home state of Texas. Guests enjoyed stay-at-home steak dinners and had the opportunity to bid on dozens of once-in-a-lifetime auction packages as part of the virtual auction.

Lastly, the foundation returned to its roots in the fall by holding three separate Von’s Vision Day programs in partnership with Etnia Barcelona. These Vision Days were held in Denver (October), Las Vegas (November), and Kansas City (December), giving the gift of sight to a combined 160 in-need children. Von’s Vision is excited to continue these roadshow Vision Days in 2021, hosting a February program in Tampa, Florida.

2020 proved to be a challenging but successful year for Von’s Vision. The mixture of new and old programming enriched the lives of hundreds of kids across the entire country. In spite of the uncertainty that 2020 brought with it, Von’s Vision sponsors and donors came through in a big way, creating two successful fundraising events and even an impactful hunger relief campaign. We are so grateful for the continued support we receive in the community and look forward to changing even more lives in 2021!
