VON'S VISION FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

2020 Vision: How ‘Von’s Lockers’ are going to reshape the foundation’s outreach in the new decade

Soon we will turn the page to a new year and a new decade. 2020 doesn’t just represent the start of a new decade, it is also a term that stands for perfect vision. And how will Von’s Vision celebrate this apropos year? By launching a new outreach program, ‘Von’s Lockers,’ with the hope that it will create perfect vision for underprivileged youth in Colorado.

‘Von’s Lockers’ are the newest development of the continued relationship between Von’s Vision and Hero Practice Services, a healthcare practice management company that supports practices that provide care to underserved communities across the United States. Over the past year, Von’s Vision and Hero have partnered on the ‘Von’s Vision Day’ and ‘Von’s Vision Center’ programs, combining to provide more than 200 kids with no-cost vision screenings, exams and prescription glasses. Now, through ‘Von’s Lockers,’ the two organizations will team-up to impact more than 1,500 kids each year.
First revealed to the public at Von Miller’s Western Round-Up on November 11th, ‘Von’s Lockers’ are standard sports lockers layered with Von Miller-themed wraps and stocked with stylish glasses and Von’s Vision gear. These lockers will be installed at 13 Adventure Vision and Academy Kids locations across the front range in Colorado. These pediatric vision practices provide vision care to kids across the Front Range which means that, for the first time, Von’s Vision will be moving beyond the Denver Metro area in an effort to serve children statewide.
Students in cities such as Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Greeley, Longmont and Loveland will be able to receive assistance from Von’s Vision, greatly increasing the number of lives touched by the foundation each year.
“Our mission at Hero Practice Services is to reach as many kids in underserved communities as possible. What’s great about this partnership, is that Von’s Vision brings awareness to the need via Von’s notoriety and we can address that need in our practices, making it easier for families to get care on an ongoing basis,” says Josh Gwinn, CEO of Hero Practice Services
Every day, uninsured children are referred to Von’s Vision. Now, through Von’s Locker, these children will not have to wait until the spring for the annual Von’s Vision Day event – they can receive care at an Adventure Vision or Academy Kids location at any time under the umbrella of the ‘Von’s Locker’ program.
To better reach this demographic, Adventure Vision and Academy Kids will begin hosting ‘Von’s Locker Days’ in early 2020. The events will be held monthly on a Saturday to ensure that students don’t miss school. The Locker Days will be held in one or two practices at a time, rotating between all thirteen locations.
Each ‘Von’s Locker’ will contain a selection of high-end, fashion-forward frames from Von’s Vision’s frame provider, Etnia Barcelona. Participants in the program will be able to select the frame style that they want, which will then be correctly sized and receive prescription lenses. In addition to the glasses, children will also receive Von’s Vision-branded gifts, such as sunglasses, wristbands and cleaning cloths.
One of the benefits of hosting the ‘Von’s Locker Days’ at an Adventure Vision and Academy Kids office is that the clinicians will be able to provide a continuum of care to the patients served through Von’s Vision, allowing them to address issues such as broken glasses and changing prescriptions more easily. Additionally, all medical records can be stored electronically in one, central location.
Throughout the state of Colorado, there are thousands of children who have visual impairments but are unable to afford the optometry care or corrective eyewear they need. Hero Practice Services will work with their community partners, such as local elementary schools and Head Start programs, to identify those kids who have both the need and eligibility for the program. Through these partnerships, students will be able to apply and schedule appointments for Von’s Locker.
Throughout the past eight years, Von’s Vision has grown tremendously and changed the lives of thousands of disadvantaged youth. As we enter a new decade, Von’s Vision will usher in a new era of community outreach programming. While programs such as ‘Von’s Vision Center’ will remain in place, the new ‘Von’s Locker’ concept will quickly become a representation of this new era.
