VON'S VISION FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

Von Miller Presents Inaugural Vision Fest, Sixth Annual Reveal Party

DENVER (MAY 1, 2019) – Von’s Vision, the personal charity of Denver Broncos’ Linebacker Von Miller, hosted a pair of community outreach programs on Tuesday at Mile High Stadium in furtherance of its mission to provide Denver youth with no-cost eye care and corrective eyewear. The day of outreach was highlighted by Miller’s evening appearance at the sixth annual Von’s Vision Day Reveal Party in Mile High’s East Club Lounge. During the program, Miller personally presented more than 80 students, who ranged in age from 5 to 22, with a new pair of prescription glasses, each modeled after Miller’s own fashionable eyewear.
The 200 students who participated in the Reveal Party had previously been served by Von’s Vision through the provision of no-cost vision screenings and eye examinations at the foundation’s three prior Von’s Vision Day programs. Many of these students had already received their new glasses as part of the prior Von’s Vision Day programming. Tuesday’s Reveal Party ensured that the remaining students would receive new prescription glasses specific to their individual optometric needs.
Miller, who is gearing up for his ninth season with the Broncos, spent the evening posing for photographs, signing autographs, and showing the children in attendance how fashionable Von’s Vision’s frames are. It is widely known that Miller has struggled with vision problems of his own throughout his life, which affected his performance both in the classroom and on the field as a youth. Upon reaching the NFL, he launched Von’s Vision as a way to help children who suffer from similar visual impairments, specifically those who may not be able to afford regular visits to the eye doctor.
 
“We set out to help one or two kids, and to have this kind of impact is extremely rewarding,” said Miller during the program. “The best part is when the kids wear their glasses and I have my glasses on and we take pictures . . . we just connect.”

Through collaboration with exclusive lens provider Hero Practice Services, Von’s Vision is able to provide dozens of students in attendance on Tuesday evening with prescription glasses that will not only assist them academically, but improve the self-esteem for those who may be sporting eyewear for the first time.
Preceding the annual Reveal Party was the inaugural Von’s Vision Fest, a new community outreach program held in partnership with Essilor Vision Foundation. Another charitable heavyweight in the vision-care industry, Essilor Vision Foundation worked with Von’s Vision to organize its signature Kids Vision Fest program for the first time in Denver, serving more than 200 local children at Mile High Stadium’s United Club East. Students from 15 participating DPS elementary schools, including Cole Arts & Sciences Academy and Cheltenham Elementary, were bused in between 9:30 am and 1:00 pm to receive no-cost vision screenings, eye examinations and other optometric services from the area’s most trusted optometrists and opticians. Many of the optometrists and vision tech participating in the program were from local organizations such as Academy Kids Dental & Vision, located in Colorado Springs.
 
“We are here to provide access to vision care to kids who don’t have it, but without people like Von to make glasses cool, kids might not consistently wear their glasses. He really helps them to realize their full potential,” said Becky Palm, President and Executive Director of Essilor Vision Foundation.

Von’s Vision’s partnership with Essilor Vision Foundation will continue into 2020, as a second annual Von’s Vision Fest program is slated for next spring.
In all, Von’s Vision served in excess of 400 students through both of Tuesday’s community outreach programs, bringing the Foundation’s total impact in 2019 to 645 students. Since inception, Von’s Vision has been successful in giving the gift of sight to more than 10,000 children in need.
