VON'S VISION FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

DENVER – (August 13, 2016) – Just like the NFL regular season, the school year is about to be in full swing. Not only is Von Miller doing his part to prepare the defending Super Bowl champs for success on the field, he is preparing Denver area children for success in the classroom.

On Saturday, August 13, Von Miller’s charitable foundation, Von’s Vision, partnered with STRIVE Prep, VSP Global and Denver Health to host Von Miller’s Back to School Vision Day at STRIVE Prep – SMART Academy in Southwest Denver.

The program provided free vision screenings, eye exams, and if needed, corrective eye wear to 150 Denver area students. Between 8AM and 4PM, children filed through the school gymnasium to receive no-cost exams and glasses. With the help of local volunteers, VSP Global employees and VSP Global’s state-of-the-art mobile clinics, Von Miller’s Back to School Vision Day was able to screen, prescribe and dispense designer glasses in the matter of minutes to the program’s participants. At the end of the program, an additional 150 vouchers for free screenings, exams and glasses were donated to STRIVE Prep to help children who were unable to make it to Miller’s program.

Although Miller was unable to attend his program due to a Broncos conflict, the MVP said, “There is no better way to start the school year off than with glasses to get these kids on the right track. It’s the one thing they need to have a solid foundation in the classroom.”

Studies have shown that more than 80 percent of information children receive in classrooms is presented visually—routine eye exams are essential for children to learn in school.

Von’s Vision aims to give students not only the gift of sight, but to better their future by directly impacting their ability to learn and grow as students and individuals both inside and outside the classroom.

Von Miller’s Back to School Vision Day kicked off a five-day effort to improve vision in Denver. Following the program, VSP Global’s mobile clinics were moved to the Federico F. Pena Southwest Family Health Center where it will serve the public from Monday, August 15 to Thursday, August 18 between 8AM and 5PM.

“We’re excited to reach Denver-area residents of all ages this week with free, comprehensive eye care,” said Mayor Michael B. Hancock about the initiative. “Eye health is critical to everyone’s overall health, and I encourage people to come and take advantage of this free service.”
